A publisher is any individual or organisation that produces and sells books. It is different from a printer who simply prints the finished product. Every publisher has to negotiate with a printer, but the publisher also takes responsibility for laying out the book, designing graphics and selling them.
April Sky is aware that while most people are willing to store and sell their books or booklets, they are not comfortable with taking on graphic design, using professional publishing software or entering into negotiations with a printer.
This is where April Sky comes in. When you work with us, we take responsibility for these complicated aspects of publishing, leaving you, the publisher, to take the finished product imprinted with your own name or logo. This approach will save you both time and stress and ensure that your books or booklets are designed to a professional standard.
It is important to note that April Sky is not a vanity publisher because when you work with us, you are the publisher, not us. We would not recommend vanity publishing to any client.
April Sky can and does work on projects of all sizes. Feel free to look at some of the samples on this web site. We are as competent working with single page flyers for churches as we are at producing 400 page hardback books. Remember, we are happy to discuss your needs and give you a no obligation quote.
THE PROCESS
How does it happen? What does it involve?
Publishing your own book or booklet with the help of April Sky is an exciting project. All projects have individual needs, but these are the typical steps:
• You have a meeting with our publishing experts at April Sky’s offices to allow us to get to know you, your project and answer your questions.
• We will work out a detailed no-obligation quote based on your individual requirements.
• If necessary, the quote can be further refined by discussing the project and altering some elements.
• Once this has been agreed, we will take your raw material, complete any editorial work that you require and then pass it to our designers who will work on a concept.
• We will show you the design at which point you can make design suggestions or other design alterations.
• We will complete the design and provide you with a print-out to check carefully and proof read.
• Once you are happy, you will “sign off” the design and we will have it printed. Depending on the time of year, printing can take up to three weeks from us completing the design to the finished product being delivered to you.
